Chapter Requirements

Learning Outcomes (each chapter) 

  • Please use the heading “Learning Outcomes.”
  • Please use strong verbs to indicate how the student can assess whether they have acquired the desired knowledge or skill. Although the goal is for students to learn particular concepts, verbs such aslearnor understand do not work well in Learning Outcomes. Instead, please use verbs such as apply, contrast, formulate, name, calculate, describe, identify, outline, compare, differentiate, illustrate, perform, construct, distinguish, list, and summarize. For a more detailed list please see the last page of this document. 
  • In order to facilitate self-assessment, please specify thenumberof main characteristics (or factors or features) to be described (or identified or summarized) wherever possible. For example, 

Poor: Describe Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. 

Better: Describe the five levels in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.

  • Please ensure images are at a resolution of 300 dpi and follow the guidelines found here.
  • These items should be included in your chapter submission within their correct locations, as well as attached as seperate files during submission to allow for appropriate chapter production.

Canadian Case Study (beginning of each chapter) 

  • Please includeat least one in every chapter. 
  • In these hypothetical scenarios, please make each case “Canadian” by identifying a place in Canada where the individual lives and by using names of people that reflect the ethnic diversity of Canadians. 
  • Please bear in mind that the typical student readers of the book are women in theirmid-twenties. All other factors being equal, please choose topics that would appeal to that readership. 
  • Use the subhead “Critical Thinking Questions” for the questions and formulate “Critical Reasoning” questions where applicable. Use “Clinical Reasoning” questions in the skills chapters.
  • Please provide the answers with rationales for all recommended actions in a separate document.

Chapter Highlights (each chapter) 

  • A chapter summary in bulleted form.

Key Terms (each chapter) 

  • Please boldface the key terms in the sentence where you define them in the body of the text. Please explicitly define each key term (each chapter). 
  • If you introduce the term in an earlier sentence than in the one in which you define it, you can use italics for that earlier appearance. 
  • Please list the Key Terms, under the heading of "Key Terms" at the end of the chapter along with the definition used within the text. 

Assess Your Learning Questions (each chapter) 

  • Please include a maximum of 10 questions for each chapter. Questions should be application and case based questions.  

Suggested Readings (each chapter) 

  • Please follow APA 7th Edition bibliographical format.
  • Cite 2–4 readings.
  • Please annotate each entry with 1 or 2 sentences.

Weblinks (each chapter) 

  • Please annotate each entry with 1 or 2 sentences
  • Please limit the Weblinks to 6 per chapter. 

References (each chapter) 

  • Please follow APA 7th Edition bibliographical format.
  • Please strive to cite themost recent literature and the most recent editions of a particular source.
